Things I should have thought of before Sandy

Hurricane Sandy is tearin' her way on up the East Coast today, bringing along 60-70 mph wind gusts and sideways downpours which were a pleasure to drive in this morning. So what does this lady's unwelcome visit have to do with me? Well, I do this thing every single time it rains; once i narrowly make it to my car in the AM (adorable clear Totes umbrella in tow-buy it here), I spend the entire 45 minutes that is my commute fixating on the rain gear I've yet to purchase. My umbrella isn't completely un-helpful but let's call it what it is: a chic accessory.

So, in my opinion, any responsible-ish, professional woman should own the following rainy day accessories. I just haven't quite gotten around to it yet.

1. Hunter Rain Boots- duh. Also, confession, The reason I haven't pulled the trigger on these yet is I'm too overwhelmed by the cornucopia of colors to choose from. Today I want chartreuse, tomorrow I may want pink, I love the classic yellow, but then there's the bright red... and so you see, the self-torture continues.

2. A Raincoat- Groundbreaking, I know.

Mossimo Supply Co. Lightweight Anorak - Assorted Colors

3. A Shearling Boot Option- Because Lord knows that when you add ice into a rainy day mix, the extra warmth and traction will keep my levels of melodrama and severe displeasure to a dull roar, thus preventing me from saying hurtful things I don't mean to loved ones.

4. A Pocket Umbrella- To keep in my bag for when one of two things happens- 1. my cute clear umbrella is too clunky to bring with or 2. I accidentally bump into someone with anger issues with my current umbrella (since I'm only 5' 1" and that's something i do often) and said person takes my umbrella and (somewhat impressively) breaks it over their knee.

Glitter Thursday-I don't do scary

Last week I was coerced into watching the 'Blair Witch Project'  and it's safe to say I'm scarred for life. We're talking- too scared to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night because who knows what's lurking in the darkness- kinda trauma. Anywho, seeing as it is the Halloween season, I need to get in the spirit somehow... and I shall do that through all things glitter.

Sneak Peek

All I have planned this weekend is to stay in and finish up my apartment overhaul/organization bonanza. I'm pretty excited about the way she's shaping up so far and love the paint colors I finally chose (Glidden 'Pearl Grey' for the bathroom and Glidden 'Apricot White' for the rest of the joint). Hopefully I'll have some proper images of my place to share next week but until then, you can take a peek at the polyvore inspiration boards I created. Surprisingly, they pretty closely reflect what the real-deal is shaping up to look like... Not sure what I'm gonna do with my life when my apartment is finally settled. Maybe start running and exercising again? Hmm baby steps...

Glitter Thursday-Cleanses are sparkly in no way, shape or form

Sometimes I measure the amount of food I eat in minutes rather than amounts. for instance, I've been known to drop the line, "Today I stood over the counter and ate a half hour's worth of nacho cheddar goldfish crackers, what did you do today?" Well, last night, after  a solid 10 minutes of M&M's, I knew it was time to reevaluate some things. I pulled out my handy dandy new blender and used this recipe to create the "Green Monster Spinach Smoothie".

I'd been wanting to try out the recipe for awhile and had cut up the bananas and frozen them about 2 weeks ago. Also, I've been tense and anxious all over the place lately and read this past weekend that spinach contains magnesium which is a known anxiety buster. The final say on this smoothie is that it's tasty, filling and I admittedly felt a little clearer and more energetic this AM. I highly recommend it. Plus the green-ness of it all will completely weird out your boyfriend- bonus!!!

The Best Brownie Recipe in the History of the Universe

Last night was the first truly chilly night we've had in the North End. Usually, I'm able to resist the temptation to follow the amazing smells of garlic and homemade pasta wafting through my windows (not by choice of course, mostly due to lack of budget-type reasons), but last night the cooler weather got the best of me and I couldn't take it anymore. This happened and I enjoyed every last second of it:
Chicken Parm from Dino's on Salem St. They don't have a website but  trust me- RUN, don't walk there immediately... Not pictured- the garlic bread that I inhaled before being able to snap a pic. Whoops.

Now I don't know where you grew up but where I come from you can't just end the perfect comfort food feast before dessert. It simply isn't done. Luckily, I knew just what to make, my favorite dessert of all time: Julia Child's 'Best Ever' Brownies. As one of the lazier people on this planet who is not opposed to the occasional fast food run or box-mix, I'm telling you, once you taste these brownies you will NEVER make the filfth box stuff ever again.

These brownies truly speak for themselves and don't need a thing added to them but i was feelin' spunky at CVS last night and decided to pick up some frosting and candy corns to jazz the recipe up with. I've posted both results below so you can see for yourself. Don't ask questions, just make them and thank me later.
